Even the Dutch Must Be Taught to Ride
As a cycling instructor, I believe in education and training as a key component to getting more folks out there on bikes and to helping them stay safe. Even still, it sometimes feels a little futile when you think of how much work it would be and how many classes you’d need to run in order to really make an observable difference on the road.
I mean, you would never be able to teach every single citizen how to ride, would you?
Do you know of any classes for preschool age kids? DPS is almost 4.5 and he’s been riding on his own two wheels for a little over a year now. It would be so awesome if I could get him in some kind of camp or class. The Cascade ones fill up fast and are for older kids.
I’m sort of new to the scene, but I know of other families looking for similar things and not knowing where to turn.
CUSTOM CLASS? With tiny cars? And roundabouts? Taught by you? Eh?!
Hi Tasha,
Bike Works, where I work focuses our youth programs on young people ages 9-17. I don’t know about a lot of resources for the real littles, but it is a great idea!
I do know about a Traffic Garden project (like the one described in the article I linked to above) that may come up soon. I’ll post the details here when they are firmed up!
